Reports have it that Disney is making plans for a reboot of its "Indiana Jones" franchise, and they already have their sights set on a leading man, none other than Chris Pratt, PEOPLE reported.
So far there are four films in the "Indiana Jones" franchise, with "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in 1981, "Temple of Doom" in 1984, "The Last Crusade" in 1989 and "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" in 2008. Since then, loyal fans have been wondering about Indy's fate, especially given how long it takes for films to be made. However, if recent reports are to be believed, the franchise is getting a major facelift.
The news was first reported by Deadline, who was told by sources that Disney is now engaged in early talks about reviving Indy. They brought the franchise from Paramount in 2013 and after being busy with "Star Wars," they decided to turn their attention to a new project.
This is where Pratt came in, and the sources claimed that they were hoping he would be the leading man who they could build the franchise around.
As exciting as this could be for Indy and Pratt fans, this is still a rumor though. When approached, Disney made no comments about the report, and a rep for Pratt said they had no comment about the matter.
Pratt certainly proved his skills as both an action star and funnyman though, with works such as "Parks and Recreation" and Marvel's hit "Guardians of the Galaxy." He's also appearing in the upcoming "Jurassic World" and "The Magnificent Seven" so his involvement in remakes, reboots or sequel films is certainly nothing new.
If indeed the rumors are legitimate, Disney may have picked up on his potential to bring a fresh take to the "Indiana Jones" franchise.
With rumors of Pratt taking over, one has to wonder about the fate of Indy himself, Harrison Ford.
During an interview in 2013, the actor said he wouldn't mind reprising the role if Disney had plans for another film, according to Toronto Sun.
"We've seen the character develop and grow over a period of time and it's perfectly appropriate and okay for him to come back again with a great movie around him where he doesn't necessarily have to kick as much a**," the actor said.
Ford has done a lot of good work for the "Indiana Jones" franchise. If Disney is indeed going ahead with a new film, they might even consider making it an "Indiana Jones" of sorts as some have opened up the possibility of a prequel film happening with Pratt as the young Indy, according to Comic Book. They might invite Ford to make an appearance if that was the case.
It's unknown as of yet if Ford has heard the rumors so fans can only wonder if he'll take it well and support Disney's plans to hire an actor who will be taking up Indy's fedora and whip.
Everything's still at the beginning stages though, so people have no choice but to wait until Disney makes some decisions or starts making announcements.
