Amidst Apple's legal efforts to snuff the life out of the Samsung and an aggressive campaign promoting the iPhone 5, consumers demand for the Galaxy S3 has surprisingly increased, peaking during the press's barrage of coverage surrounding the Apple-Samsung court verdict and the Cupiterno-based company's Sept. 12 press event.
As a baseline, the Galaxy S3's weekly adoption rate levels out at an average of 9 percent, according to Localytics. The research firm used data from handsets seen by apps between July 31 and October 1. Localytics notes that "the growth effects are cumulative, so while the Samsung device's weekly device growth slowed some weeks, it is still adding handsets at a remarkable rate."
The Galaxy S3 experienced two prominent spikes during the study. The first occurred from August 21 to August 27, the date of the Samsung-Apple Verdict. Adoption rate rocketed up to 16 percent, compared to the 8 percent growth from August 14 to August 20. Localytics argues that the press coverage and constant device comparisons between the iPhone 5 and Samsung S3 cued the smartphone audience that their feature sets were comparable, giving the Galaxy a boost in exposure.
In the week preceding the official announcement of the iPhone 5, the Galaxy S3 experienced a lull in growth, bottoming out to 0 percent. Consumer hesitation to commit to Samsung's device was trumped once again, however, when Apple held its Sept. 12 press event. Samsung sales once again climbed upward to 15 percent growth. Since that time, weekly Galaxy S3 sales have slightly petered out to 9 percent, but still remain consistently above the standard of growth set prior to the Samsung-Apple court verdict.
