CBS is currently in the developmental stages of the upcoming "Supergirl" TV series and fans have been wondering for weeks whether there will be a crossover with other superhero shows, particularly The CW's "Arrow" and "The Flash".
IGN reported that Greg Berlanti is the executive producer of "Supergirl" as well as "Arrow" and "The Flash", so it is highly possible that there might be a fusion of elements every now and then for the fans. Berlanti shared that it would be delightful for fans to see the three heroes get together but they have to get a lot of things right as well as get some luck to feature a good show. Mark Pedowitz, President of CW, previously said that he was open to the concept of a "cohesive universe" involving the heroes.
However, Nina Tassler, President of CBS, did not seem to share the same vision as Berlanti and Pedowitz as of the moment, based on the same IGN report.
She said, "Well, those two shows [The Flash and Arrow] are on a different network." She continued, "So I think we'll keep Supergirl to ourselves for awhile." She added, "When you've got a brand like that, it'd be great to have somebody new."
Tassler explained why Supergirl would be good for CBS. She said, "These are human dramas. And in terms of the public, there are so many superheroes portrayed in film. And there's been an evolution in regards to the way they are portrayed. They have humanity, they're flawed."
She said in a report by MovieWeb.com, "It's a wonderful amalgamation of the mythology of the character with a coming of age tale. She's a very strong, independent young woman and she's coming into her own. She's dealing with family issues. She's dealing with work issues. And it's a female-empowerment story, which if you look at the strong female characters we have on the air, it really is resonate to that. We're big feminists. It's her intellect, it's her skill, it's her smarts. It's all of those elements. It's not just her strength, which she does have."
Tassler shared in an Entertainment Weekly report about Supergirl's character and the show. She said, "There will be [crime] cases, but what [executive producers] Ali Adler and Greg Berlanti pitched was a real series arc for her. The beauty of it is now with shows like 'Good Wife' and 'Madam Secretary,' you can have serialized story elements woven into a case of the week. She's a crime solver, so she's going to have to solve a crime. She's going to get a bad guy."
