After Manny Pacquiao again called out Floyd Mayweather to "make fistory" on December 31, 2014 by fighting him in 2015, Mayweather imposed a new counter-offer on the eight-division champion.
Inquisitr reported that Mayweather had a new counter-offer for Pacquiao, as their two camps continue to negotiate the details of what could possibly be the biggest fight in boxing history.
Michael Koncz, Pacquiao's advisor, said in an ABS-CBN report, "I spoke to Manny this morning (Dec. 31). I gave Manny what is perceived to be a counter offer from the Mayweather people. We discussed it and now I've given instructions to Bob (Arum) to counter their counter. We've been going back and forth. There's been offers and counter offers, and a couple of days ago Bob called me and gave me allegedly where Floyd's side is, and I discussed that with Manny two hours ago."
Konczwent on to explain that the continuous exchange of offers between their camps was a positive thing. However, he remains cautious after potential deals between their two camps kept failing since 2009. Koncz said, "Now I've given Bob our response to that. I'm never overly optimistic until the contract is signed, but the good thing is that we're still going back and forth."
ESPN reported that on December 16, 2014, Pacquiao tweeted to Mayweather, "Don't be a boxing humbug, Let's give the fans the fight they want. They have waited long enough."
On the eve of the New Year, Pacquiao again tweeted to Mayweather, "The ball will drop at midnight to usher in 2015. @FloydMayweather let's not drop the ball on fighting each other next year! #LetsMakeFistory".
Mayweather previously responded during a Showtime interview on December 12 that he wanted to face Pacquiao on May 2, 2015. He said in the same ESPN report, "We are ready. Let's make it happen May 2. Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao. Let's do it,"
Mayweather added that the fight has to be a Showtime pay-per-view and blamed Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, for being the reason why the big fight could not happen in the past few years. Currently, Arum and Les Moonves, head of CBS, the parent company of Showtime, which has an existing contract with Mayweather is discussing the potential of the mega-bout. Provided that Arum and Moonves come to an agreement and after Pacquiao's camp already stated that they are willing to receive the smaller share of the fight purse, Moonves still needs to convince Mayweather to agree, based on the same ESPN report.
