'The Walking Dead' Season 5 Episode 9 Spoilers, Promo, Synopsis: Could Daryl Dixon Die of Depression?

Will Beth's death affect Daryl that much that he could die of depression?

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Norman Reedus revealed that his character Daryl Dixon will definitely be depressed in the upcoming episodes following Beth's (played by Emily Kinney) death in the series' mid-season finale episode.

"I think it puts him into a depression...Sophia was like hope. You remember Glenn saying, 'This is Sophia!' It was different. She was the bright hope of the future. It was an honest and true person," to quote Reedus.

"Beth's death is like Sophia's; she sings songs and was always hopeful...Of course she tried to kill herself at one point, but besides that, for the most part, she was this sweet songbird, and that represents a part of humanity that you don't see anymore. So when you put that candle out, it goes dark for everyone," he added.

Reedus described Beth to Entertainment Weekly as a "beacon of hope" so when they saw her leave, it was really devastating to them. "All these little slivers of hope are being taken from this group one by one. It just gets worse and worse and worse. Humanity and the goodness in people is slowly being evaporated from their world."

Of course, we still do not know whether this depression could lead to Daryl's death but it is possible.

Reedus told Entertainment Weekly that the characters are "sort of hanging on a thread" as they are devastated and on a low emotional state. He also added that it is difficult to see Emily Kinney leave as she was a great actress whom he considers a friend. Daryl will not be the only one to be affected by Beth's death. Maggie Greene, played by Lauren Cohan, will also have to face how to live life without her sister.

Earlier, we heard Denise Huth, one of the show's executive producers, say that the next episodes will be "darker" and "emotionally heavy." She also said that the next scenes will highlight the "humanity of the characters." Scott Gimple, also one of the show's executive producer, revealed to Christian Post that the remaining eight episodes of the series were created with "an interesting structure filled with many emotional and crazy moments for Rick and the gang." He also said that there will probably be a "huge change for the situation of these characters."
