Following criticism made about her recent weight gain, singer Lady Gaga launched the “Body Revolution 2013” campaign on September 25 as a way to stand up to discrimination. The “Born This Way” performer kick-started the campaign as part of her Born This Way Foundation on her website LitteMonsters.com.
Lady Gaga spoke out against critics who publicly scrutinized her recent 25-pound weight gain and admitted to suffering body insecurities as well as bulimia and anorexia since she was 15, reported MTV News.
Gaga also encouraged her fans, dubbed Little Monsters, to share their stories of overcoming insecurities. The singer wrote, “Hey Guys its Gaga, Now that the body revolution has begun, be brave and post a photo of you that celebrates your triumph over insecurities.”
On Wednesday, she tweeted “We’ve had literally thousands of submission to BODY REVOLUTION 2013 on littlemonsters.com.” Gaga added, “I’d like to give you applause, so happy.”
According to MTV, fans responded to the singer’s message to “inspire bravery. and BREED some m$therf---ing COMPASSION.” Her fans have used the “Body Revolution 2013” platform to share their struggles and comfort each other.
ABC News reported, Lady Gaga told Z100 radio host Elvis Duran recently, “I have to be on such a strict diet constantly. It’s hard because it’s a quite vigorous show, so I tend to bulk up, get muscular, and I really don’t like that. So I’m trying to find a new balance.”
