The wait for cast details for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ is finally over. The final cast listing for the trilogy’s second film installment, “Catching Fire,” was released on Thursday, revealing who will play the tributes in the third annual Quarter Quell.
Lionsgate has spent the summer slowly releasing the names of cast members for the highly anticipated sequel after the enormous success of the first installment, “The Hunger Games,” earlier this year.
Everyone’s favorite District 12 tributes, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) will return for their second Hunger Games after becoming the first duo ever to win the Games together. The duo will find themselves going on the victor’s tour around Panem before being launched into a terrifying second Hunger Games.
Fellow District 12 characters Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) and Primrose Everdeen (Willow Shields) will return and are expected to take on more prominence than in the previous film. Hunger Games escort, Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), previous District 12 tribute, Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) and stylist, Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), will also return to guide Katniss and Peeta through their victor’s tour and second Hunger Games.
New faces will join the District 12 tributes for the Quarter Quell Games, but they will not be new to the Hunger Games.
District 1 will be represented by previous Games victors Gloss (Alan Richson) and Cashmere (Stephanie Leigh Schlund). Actors Bruno Gunn and Meta Golding will join the cast as previous Game victors Brutus and Enobaria from District 2. Gloss and Enobaria will both find themselves against Katniss during the Games.
Representing District 3 will be past victors Wiress (Amanda Plummer) and Beetee (Jeffrey Wright). Actors Sam Claflin and Lynn Cohen will play the highly anticipated roles of District 4 victors Finnick and Mags.
Actress Jena Malone is joining the cast as Johanna Mason, a District 7 victor, along with fellow District 7 victor, Blight (played by Bobby Jordan). Fans will also see John Casino and Elena Sanchez take up the roles of District 8 victors Woof and Cecelia, along with E. Roger Mitchell and Maria Howell, who will play District 11 champs Chaff and Seeder.
Philip Seymour Hoffman will star as Plutarch Heavensbee, the new Head Gameskeeper who takes over for Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley). However, Katniss and the rest of the tributes will soon learn that Plutarch is really on their side.
Donald Sutherland is also returning as the hated President Snow along with Hunger Games commentators Caesar Flickerman (played by Stanley Tucci) and Claudius Templesmith (played by Toby Jones). Paula Malcomson will again play Katniss’ mother.
The film is already in production in Clayton County, Ga. with new set photos surfacing online recently. According to Lionsgate, principal photograph for the sequel began on September 10 in Atlanta, Ga. and will proceed to film in Hawaii before wrapping up in late December 2012.
“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is scheduled for theater release November 22, 2013.
