Rumors are circulating that the upcoming "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" will be Director Joss Whedon's last film for Marvel.
According to Inquisitr, the rumors came after the hack attack at Sony Studios that revealed talks among Sony executives and management on the studio's projects.
The report, citing the Brazilian site overtice.com, said that among those leaked emails was the conversation between Sony Entertainment Chairman Amy Pascal and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" directors Anthony and Joe Russo.
In the email, it was confirmed by the two that they are indeed directing the "Captain America: Civil War" and "The Avengers: Infinity War Part I" and "The Avengers: Infinity War Part II." Inquisitr reported that the Russos also told Pascal that these two new films will not hinder them from directing a film called "The Gray Man."
"The takeaway is that if the Russo brothers are taking the 'Avengers' helm over from Joss Whedon after 'Age of Ultron', then Whedon won't be directing any more Marvel films," Inquisitr's report noted.
The news has not yet been confirmed by Whedon or by the Russos, but the site said that Joss Whedon has already previously "hinted" that the new "Avengers" movie might be his last. However, Inquisitr also added that this does not mean that Whedon will not be involved in the two part "The Avengers: Infinity Wars" films in any way.
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is a sequel to the first "Avengers" film which Variety said is considered as the "third highest-grossing film of all-time" after earning $1.5 billion in 2012.
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is based on the Marvel comic book series "The Avengers," which was first published in 1963. It will hit theaters in May.
According to Marvel, the sequel will again feature original cast members -- Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Paul Bettany will portray the role of The Vision, Tom Hiddleston as the villain Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, and James Spader as Ultron, it added. There are also newcomers -- Aaron Johnson as Pietro Maximoff and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff.
Marvel said "Avengers: Age of Ultron," is the "epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time."
"When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure," the plot summary posted on Marvel's website read.
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" will hit theaters in May.
