It looks like the Caped Crusader side of the merging DC universe in "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice" will have a big void following latest rumor hinting that Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon is already dead in the movie.

"In this continuity, James Gordon has, at some point in the past, bitten the dust. How and at whose hands, I cannot tell you. All that's noted in the script is that there's a memorial plaque to James Gordon. This explains why the role wasn't cast for the film," reports Devin Faraci of Badass Digest.

If the Gordon rumor is true, then the Gotham police commissioner is not the only Batman ally who's has been rumored dead in the upcoming movie. Several months ago, the rumor mill was swirling wildly indicating of an already dead Robin, and that a female Robin is to take the Boy Wonder's place as Batman's partner, details Comicbook.com.

But Screen Rant indicates that Dick Grayson or Robin may not be dead but only estranged from Bruce Wayne and Batman.

"The new version of Batman, played by Ben Affleck is reportedly older and semi-retired from crime fighting. He may be estranged from Dick Grayson and rolling along with a female Robin. And given his wealth, he may be policing Gotham City with the aid of drones," points out the report.

"Such a continuity shake-up also calls into question many other things such as the status of characters like Barbara Gordon (Batgirl/Oracle) or Dick Grayson (Robin) and whether or not Jared Leto's Joker had anything to do with how Gordon perished," poses Screen Rant.

Since Bruce Wayne's loyal butler Alfred, played by Jeremy Irons, is still alive in the movie, the report thinks that age could not have been the reason for the death of Commissioner Gordon.

"It would be strange to have a Batman movie without Gordon. Then again, Gordon is currently having his character explored without a caped counterpart, as seen in Fox's 'Gotham' TV series," opines Screen Rant.

"As saddening as it is to think that Gotham's top cop won't be in the film, it makes sense. The new Batman will be quite the warhorse, with more than 10 years under his utility belt as the protector of Gotham City," observes Comicbook.com

The Zack Snyder-helmed "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice" will hit theaters on March 25, 2016.

Apart from Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Gal Gadot, the other cast members of the movie include Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Jessa Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and many others.
