Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, released in 2014, was highly successful, causing fans to wonder if a sequel is already in the works.
In a report by GeeksOfDoom.com, the first movie grossed $477 million around the world and is No. 12 in the list of top-grossing movies of the year.
Due to its warm reception, Paramount decided to create a sequel, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2," reportedly to be directed by David Green. The first installment was directed by Jonathan Liebesman. Andre Nemec and Josh Applebaum, who were the screenwriters in the first movie are set to write the script for the second film and also executive produce, based on the same report by GeeksOfDoom.com.
IGN.com reported that producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form already confirmed that two classic enemies of the Ninja Turtles are set to appear, namely Bebop and Rocksteady. Bebop is a mutated warthog while Rocksteady is a mutant rhinoceros. The two were first introduced as members of the Foot Clan, which follow Shredder, who will also return in the sequel. In the first film, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo emerged victorious against Shredder, who fell from a tall building. In the final part of the movie, there were hints that Shredder survived the fall.
Andrew Form said, "We can say that Bebop and Rocksteady are in the film, and Casey Jones is a character that we love and we're trying to fit him in as well."
It will be the first time that Bebop and Rocksteady will appear in a TMNT film. The two characters were supposed to appear in the first movie, but was removed subsequently. In an article by Cinema Blend, the two were supposed to appear in the 1991 movie "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret Of The Ooze," but were substituted by two other mutants, Tokka and Rahzar, due to rights conflicts.
Casey Jones was first featured in a movie in 1990, played by Elias Koteas. He is a vigilante who wears a hockey mask and fights criminals using different weapons, although his favorite is a hockey stick. He will most likely be involved in a romantic relationship with April O'Neil.
The producers are currently looking for actors who will take on the roles of Bebop, Rocksteady and Casey Jones.
Brad Fuller and Form added that Megan Fox will return as April O'Neil while Will Arnett will also return as Vernon Fenwick.
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" is scheduled to appear on theatres on June 3, 2016.
