OKC Thunder fans cannot wait until their dream duo fully returns to action.
On November 28, Russell Westbrook returned to action and immediately worked his magic, leading the OKC Thunder to win against the New York Knicks with a final score of 105-78. Westbrook previously suffered a broken hand on October 30, 2014 in their game against the Los Angeles Clippers. As medically expected, he was back on the court in just six weeks, showing no signs of pain from the past injury. In a report by Yahoo! Sports, Westbrook scored 32 points and added eight assists and seven rebounds while playing only 24 minutes.
Thunder's other star, Kevin Durant, was also expected to make his return on December 2 against the New Orleans Pelicans. In a report by MSN.com, Durant suffered a broken right root and underwent surgery in October 2014. On December 1, he joined the team's full practice and reportedly had no discomfort or pain from his previous injury.
Scott Brooks, coach of the OKC Thunder, said in the same MSN report, "Kevin continues to progress well. Thought he had a really good day and will continue to build on that." According to ESPN, Brooks said that Durant will play about 30 minutes on Tuesday against the Pelicans, "I have to be able to manage it. You go in to every game thinking you have so many minutes and I have to structure the game plan around that."
In the same MSN article, OKC was terrible without their stars, changing from being one of the top contenders for the division title to becoming one of the worst teams in the NBA with a current record of 5-12. In the Western Conference, the two other teams that fared worse are the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers.
The same ESPN report also quoted Durant sharing that he is already excited to play again, "Just excited to get back out there with my teammates. It's been a long 6½ weeks just trying to get better and get my foot right. The training staff did a great job, so I'm just looking forward to playing tonight."
He continued, "I know it's going to be a little bit different for me not having played ... and then going out there and playing the highest level of basketball. But I'm looking forward to going out there and seeing where I am and playing as hard as I can for my team."
