The first season of HBO's "True Detective" was a critical success and with season 2 coming soon, it's good to know that casting has already been finalized. Remember, if you're attached to the characters in the first season, chances are you won't see them on the show again, so it's better to set your mind to it as early as now.

For the second season, it has finally been confirmed via The Huffington Post that Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch will join Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn in the series.

According to the site, McAdams will play the lead female role, Ani Bezzerides, the detective with "uncompromising ethics" while Kitsch is Paul Woodrugh, war veteran and highway patrol officer with a past.

The lead male is Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, who is torn about his corrupt department. The villains in all this is Vaughn as Frank Semyon and Kelly Reilly as his wife and partner, Jordan.

So what's going to be different in the second season besides the cast?

Here's everything we know as noted by Cinema Blend:

Season 2 is set in sunny California instead of the desolate Louisiana Bayou. Though it's nowhere near Hollywood or Silicon Valley or even San Francisco, it's still going to be set in the backwoods of California, it seems.

It will focus on not just two people, but three or four, depending on whether you count Vince Vaughn as a lead despite his villain status. The synopsis for season 2, as printed on IGN read, "Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder."

Also, unlike the first season where only one director helmed all eight episodes, it seems that season 2 will feature a TV format with multiple directors in charge of different episodes. Production has already begun, in fact, and the episodes were written by Nic Pizzolatto, with the first two episodes helmed by "Fast and Furious" director Justin Lin.

According to Entertainment Weekly, "True Detective" Season 2 is set to get a summer premiere in 2015. Are you excited to see the big stars in the small screen?
