Eric Bledsoe of the Phoenix Suns previously joked in a report by Yahoo! Sports that the top college team Kentucky Wildcats would win in a basketball game against the currently worst NBA team, the Philadelphia 76ers, who has a 0-11 record in the 2014-2015 NBA season so far.
According to SB Nation, one way to settle the score once and for all would be to play a virtual game on NBA 2K15. Gamers managed to add the Kentucky Wildcats in the NBA to play a playoff series consisting of seven games against the Sixers. One 2K player managed to update the roster to add the Wildcats players so only the ratings were left to be added. Injured 76ers players Joel Embiid and Jerami Grant were also taken out, giving better odds to the Wildcats.
NBA draft projections were made to provide ratings to the Kentucky college players, based on the same report by SB Nation. Karl-Anthony Towns had the highest rating at 76, followed by Willie Cauley-Stein at 74. Alex Polythress, Trey Lyles and Dakari Johnson were rated 71, Aaron Harrison was rated 70, Marcus Lee and Andrew Harrison were 69, Tyler Ulis was 67 and Devin Booker was 65.
It turns out that the worst NBA team can still beat the best college team, with Philadelphia edging out Kentucky in the series at 4-1. The Sixers won Game 1 with a final score of 85-74. Game 2 was still won by the Sixers with a final score of 101-86. In Game 3, Kentucky won their only win at 85-84. In Game 4, Philadelphia won 100-62. To close the series, Philadelphia won for the fourth time in Game 5 with a final score of 118-81.
The Wildcats had a lot of air balls and turnovers during the game. Dakari Johnson led the team in scoring with an average of 11.6 per game, followed by Aaron Harrison with 10. For the Sixers, Tony Wroten led in points with 20 per game, followed by Michael Carter-Williams with 15.6.
Furthermore, the gamers gave the Kentucky Wildcats the Philadelphia 76ers' schedule to determine how they would fare in a full NBA season. The results were devastating, with the Wildcats finishing 7-75, becoming the worst NBA team in history, based on the same SB Nation report.
Bleacher Report wrote that any college team, regardless of its athleticism and depth, will still be dominated by a poor-performing NBA team, such as the 76ers.
