Taylor Swift is never really outside loop: media seems to follow her around, and this time, she's making waves for her most recent video, "Blank Space."
Due to a mess up at Yahoo, Forbes said that her music video was leaked earlier than expected, so to do some damage control, Taylor and her camp posted it on her official Vevo site instead. The website also said that Taylor was supposed to announce the video on Good Morning America on Tuesday, but considering the number of fans she has, there is no going back: the clip has already made rounds in major sites like Vimeo.
The video is Taylor's way of putting her haters in line by accepting who they think she is. According to Director Joseph Kahn, Taylor came to him with the idea, wanting to address the jokes made about her and all her ex boyfriends who made it into her songwriting.
Kahn said about Taylor's pitch, "When I heard this concept, I thought 'This is amazing!' This is a deconstructivist version of Taylor Swift!"
Taylor definitely pulled off the crazy girlfriend stereotype. The video started with what seemed to be a perfect fairytale romance: riding a bike, picnicking, and all those lovely things girls would want for their dates.
Then she reveals her true colors as she sang the line, "'Cause darling, I'm a nightmare dressed as a daydream," and all nice things came to an end.
As Time Magazine recorded it, she threw his iPhone in the fountain, and pulled a "Mean Girls" stunt on her beau's dress shirts (possibly a shade to Katy Perry). She also bangs up his car with a golf club and vandalizes the portrait she painted of him... as she did with what could be her other lovers.
Taylor certainly has a knack of taking labels and making it her own. Now that she painted the picture tabloids and haters had of her, it's pretty obvious that those labels were ridiculous.
A reader on MTV praised the video, saying, "This shows just about every scenario that a gal thinks of when there is a break-up! She has a great sense of humor and this video shows she is thick skinned and can make fun of herself despite herself! I love the video and love the song! GREAT JOB, LADY."
What do you think of Taylor's newest video, did she totally own it, or did she just prove all her critics' perceptions of her are true?
