Fans were devastated when Rihanna decided to quit Instagram; according to CNN, her hiatus from the social media website sparked outcries from all over the world, including far-flung places like Abu Dhabi and Thailand.

But she's back with two new photos posted in succession, hashtagged #badgalback and #RIHunited, which prompted tons of likes and comments in celebration of her return.

RiRi's Instagram account has been one of the most popular and controversial feed, and when she decided to stop posting, she left over 12 million followers in the dark.

Her relationship with the website has always been rocky, especially when she posted a topless photo of herself posing for a French magazine. Instagram has been known to be very strict with its anti-nudity policy. It recently went under fire when comedian Chelsea Handler spoke out about equal rights when her topless photo was removed.

Before the topless photo, RiRi also caused a stir when she posed in front of a mosque in Abu Dhabi, and when her photo caused an arrest of Thai locals when she was seen posing with an endangered primate.

Instagram finally took matters in their own hands when they disabled her account, but quickly denied doing so. Rolling Stone reported that a rep said at the time, "We briefly disabled the account by mistake and restored it quickly." However, this led the singer to abandon the site for almost six months.

But it seems that she has patched up her differences with the site, with Instagram officially welcoming her back via Twitter, saying, "Welcome back @rihanna! #RIHunited #badgalback."

According to MTV News, Instagram also preserved her old account, which means that most of her pictures can be seen by her 12.8 million followers, ensuring that she's back to being one of the most followed celebrities on the website.

USA News suggested that the singer likely had a selfie withdrawal, considering that her comeback photo is a tame one of her upside-down face, as opposed to the many controversial ones that she's known to post.

ET Canada also thinks that part of the reason the singer returned to the site is the release of a new album, which, in typical Rihanna fashion, would most likely give fans dibs on the news when she posts it on Instagram.

Of course, just because RiRi seems to be chummy with Instagram for her return, that does not mean that she won't begin posting more of her controversial posts that her fans have come to expect from her, the question remains: how long will it take before she's going to start posting outside of the safe zone again?
