After decades of following Archie Andrews's story in comic books, it's about time that a television show is made to chronicle his adventures, and it's going to be called "Riverdale."

The show, which has landed a deal with Fox, is going to be produced by studio-based Berlanti Productions and will give a fresh take on the famous comic book characters.

An article from India Today notes that Jon Goldwater, Archie Comics' publisher and co-CEO, said about the development, "This is a historic moment for Archie Comics, and we couldn't be happier to partner with Fox, Warner Bros and Greg Berlanti to bring our characters to television."

Here are some things that fans should know about the show:

1) The series will showcase the love story between Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, and Veronica Lodge, and will include the entire cast from the comic books, including Jughead Jones, Reggie Mantle, and even Archie's gay best friend, Kevin Keller.

2) Deadline notes that not only will you see characters from the original series, but a slew of appearances from the expansive Archie library as well. Some of the characters will include the all-girl band, Josie and the Pussycats.

3) This is not the first time that a live-action version of Archie and his friends were set for a series. In 1990, a TV-movie called "Archie: To Riverdale and Back" was broadcast, but it did not click with audiences and the idea for the series was dropped.

4) The concept for the series, according to the Escapist Magazine is supposed to be "subversive," and will be about "the surreality of small-town life - the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale's wholesome façade."

5) According to the New York Daily News, the show will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who has worked on "Glee". He has also written the comics' best-selling horror series, "Afterlife With Archie" and "Chilling Adventures of Sabrine." Producer Greg Berlanti also produced CW's "Arrow" and freshman series, "The Flash."

Very few updates have been reported about the series, but according to Aguirre-Sacasa in a statement via the New York Daily News, "This is something we've been working on for a while now, figuring out the best way to bring these characters to life for what will be, essentially, the first time."

What do you think about the new series, do you want to watch Archie and the gang on television?
