It seems that Barry Allen and Jane Villanueva charmed audiences in the first few episodes of their shows, because CW has ordered full seasons for "The Flash" and "Jane the Virgin" meaning they will each have 22 episodes per season.
This shows that the network has an early vote of confidence for their new shows, and that the network is set to use them to get a wider audience.
CW chief, Mark Pedowitz said in a statement via Deadline, "We have had a fantastic start to our season this year, with 'The Flash' launching as our most-watched series premiere ever, and 'Jane The Virgin' recognized as the best new show this season by critics across the country.
He added, "Over the past three seasons, we have made it our mission to grow and to broaden out our audience, and to keep raising the bar with the quality and impact of our new shows, and 'The Flash' and 'Jane' have both exceeded our expectations on all counts."
The order was not exactly surprising. Both series got some of the strongest reviews this fall season, and the network has even given both additional three-script orders before they even went on air.
"The Flash" is a superhero series based on characters by DC Comics, produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Starring Grant Gustin as the lightning-fast superhero, TV.com said that it is CW's biggest hit in years, with 6.1 million viewers during its debut. The full season order came just after two episodes aired.
"Jane the Virgin" on the other hand, launched just last week with a series premiere that captured the heart of its critics soon as it aired. The telenovela-style drama stars Gina Rodriguez as Jane, a woman who becomes pregnant after her doctor artificially inseminated her by mistake, and the audience just ate it up. TV.com said that CW said that "Jane the Virgin" is the most-watched and highest-rated show in its timeslot, and like "The Flash," the full-season pickup also came just after two episodes.
But the series order isn't the only thing to look forward to. According to Screenrant, CW already has plans for a four-hour crossover battle between "Arrow" and "The Flash" slated for November.
"The Flash," which has been in works since July 2013 was fast-tracked, according to the The Hollywood Reporter to expand the DC universe, with Rob Thomas' show, iZombie, to launch mid-season as the third DC property to join the CW slate.
The superhero thriller and telenovela drama joins other series in the CW roster that included a lot of strong performances from "Arrow," "The Vampire Diaries," "The Originals," "Supernatural," "Hart of Dixie," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Reign."
"The 100" will join the slate on October 22 while "iZombie" and "The Messengers" will kick off next year.
