War Machine Suicide: Hangs Himself in Jail But Fails

War Machine has tried to hang himself Tuesday night in his cell at Clark County Jail, several reports said. The former mixed martial arts fighter was charged with multiple counts of assault and attempted murder for allegedly beating his former girlfriend, pornstar Christy Mack. 

According to The Daily Mail, War Machine, or in his real name Jonathan Koppenhaver, was found "unresponsive" Tuesday night by a corrections officer.

Gossip source TMZ reported that the 32-year old MMA fighter was found "sitting on the ground with his feet up on the bunk bed" around 9:30 p.m.

It added that War Machine was found with a piece of linen around his neck tied to one of the bed's leg. His face was already purple when he was found. A officer immediately cut the linen and removed it, allowing him to breathe. He even tried to speak, the reports said. 

TMZ also said an apparent suicide note was found in War Machine's cell. It added that the MMA fighter is now in a medical isolation cell on suicide watch.

Koppenhaver had been locked up since August after being arrested in Simi Valley, California days after he beat Mack in her home in Las Vegas.

A police report said that 23-year old Mack was with a friend named Corey Thomas in her home in Las Vegas on August 8 when Koppenhaver came unannounced and started beating Thomas. She also said that the former MMA fighter threatened Thomas that he will be killed by his friends if he reported the assault.

After sending away Thomas, War Machine turned to Mack, starting to attack her. Police reports, The Daily Mail said, stated that Koppenhaver punched and kicked Mack, leaving her with 18 broken bones around her eyes, a broken nose, extensive facial bruises, fractures, lost teeth, and internal injuries, including a lacerated liver.

Mack also claimed that the fighter made her undress and shower in front of him. She also said in a statement she posted days after the incident that she did not know how many times she was hit and that she thought she was going to die.

She also admitted that her ex-boyfriend has beaten her many times before and that he even threatened to rape her. After hitting her at least two more times, the former fighter then left her on the floor bleeding and shaking. She was able to escape naked through a back door when Koppenhaver went to the kitchen looking for a knife. She asked for help from her neighbors and she was brought to a hospital where she was treated.

War Machine is being held without bail after being charged with 32 felonies, including attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment.
