"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" is really starting to come together, with Oscar winner Javier Bardem being rumored to portray the new villain in the film.
According to IGN the actor is in "early talks" for a role in Disney's hit pirate movie.
The Wrap said, "Christoph Waltz had been rumored to play the film's villain but Bardem currently holds the offer and is in discussions to tackle the part of Captain Brand, a ghost bent on revenge against Capt. Jack Sparrow, who he holds responsible for the murder of his brother."
There has been no comment from Bardem's camp, though, but Bardem is practically a staple villain, most recently as the nemesis for James Bond in "Skyfall."
The project is going to be filmed in Australia in a span of five months, and the actor may be influenced to push through with the project, considering that his wife, Penelope Cruz, also previously starred in the franchise film.
The cast of "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" has been coming together slowly. Geoffrey Rush is expected to be back as Barbossa, with Ian McShane and Keith Richards possibly returning for cameos.
There are also talks of Orlando Bloom reprising his role as Will Turner. Yahoo reported that the actor said during the Oz Comic Con, "There have certainly been some discussions about it and I'm open to it. That whole experience working with Johnny and (director) Gore (Verbinski) was really amazing for me. I had a great time working with Johnny, one of the reasons I jumped at the opportunity was because Johnny was involved. I was such a massive fan of Johnny Depp growing up so to get up close and personal to Johnny and see how he worked as an actor was just a massive gift."
"Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Man Tell No Tales" will open in theaters on July 7, 2017.
