'X Files 3' Movie News & Teaser: Gillian Anderson Responds to Sequel Film Rumors

Fox Mulder and Dana Scully may hit the big screen for the third time as Gillian Anderson gave hints about a possible "X Files 3" movie.

Anderson was promoting her new novel, "A Vision Of Fire," which she co-wrote with Jeff Rovin, on Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) when someone asked about the "X Files 3" movie development.

E! News observed that Anderson did not say yes but neither did she say no. Instead, she responded: "Uh ... uh.... Uh.... Sorta kinda. Keep your ears to the ground."

Den of Geek reported that Anderson, David Duchovny, and show creator Chris Carter, are all keen on making "X Files 3" happen. "It just needs someone to give it the magical greenlight. And pay for it," the site noted.

In a July 25 report, Den of Geek confirmed that talks between Carter and 20th Century Fox are ongoing for a possible reboot of the "X Files."

"Mulder and Scully fans are really waiting for news of the long-mooted third 'X Files' movie, which has reportedly been sketched out for some time. If Gillian Ande3rson is right, the movie won't happen until at least 2016, if at all," stated Den of Geek.

An E! News source also disclosed that although there are ongoing talks, "There is no concrete plan for the movie yet."

On October 12 last year, the "X Files" had its 20th anniversary reunion at the Paley Center for Media in New York. The event also reunited Anderson and Duchovny after a long while, recounted the Indiewire.

The Indiewire report also detailed that "X Files," the TV series went for nine seasons, from 1993 to 2002. The first "X Files" movie was released in 1998 and the second movie came out 10 years later.

It was during the New York event last year when both stars publicly expressed their enthusiasm and hope that they could reprise their roles in another movie, cited E! News.

"All the principals are on board. Gillian and I want to do it. So it's really up to 20th Century Fox at this point," Duchovny was quoted as saying.

"X Files," the TV series carried the tagline "I want to believe." It was also the title of the second movie released in 2008.

For E! News and the millions of cult followers of the "X Files" series both on TV and the big screen, they sure would "want to believe" that there would finally be an "X Files 3" in the works.
