Has "Iron Man" turned into a fickle-minded, vacillating tease when he said there would be no "Iron Man 4" in the works anytime soon?
Well, that's what Iron Man star Robert Downey, Jr. said in a recent interview at the Late Show with David Letterman. "There are no plans for an Iron Man 4. There's no script for Iron Man 4," the actor disclosed when the topic was brought up by show's host.
But the actor, with a little push from Letterman, became somewhat cryptic when he said that he would still be doing "other stuff with Marvel".
"But, I'm going to do other stuff with Marvel. I'm still going to be involved with Marvel and there's going to be plenty of fun stuff to happen," he explained at the show. This, of course, could be interpreted by IM4 hopefuls as "Iron Man could still be seen on the big screen, one way or another."
And if there's one thing consistent about the 49-year-old actor, it would be his inconsistency in giving a straight, up-front answer whenever queries on the movie are raised.
In an earlier interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Downey confirmed that there would be a fourth instalment of the Marvel movie. "I know there is going to be a bunch more Marvel movies. . .and they have big ideas of how to do it best, and we are in the middle of negotiation. So, yes," quipped the actor when asked by DeGeneres if there would be a fourth Iron Man.
Could it be that the actor was just trying to be in-character and just playing the role of charismatic and playful playboy Tony Stark during those interviews. Or was he dead serious on not being sure whether or not Iron Man 4 would indeed push through.
At least, it's one thing that would keep us Iron Man fans guessing, and forward looking.
The real deal, however, is that Downey will be having appearances as no less than Iron Man himself in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is set for release in North America in May 2015. He has also made deals for Avengers 3. Could this be the "other stuff" he was referring to, or does Marvel have other surprises for the thousands of Iron Man fans out there?
"... but they do have a plan and I think they're gonna announce it. You know, Marvel's very secretive about it," Downey said on Late Show , as if trying to tell us to just wait and see what will happen. Why, something (exciting) might just really happen.
