There is a certain fascination about the undead that has people clamoring for more of "The Walking Dead." The new season is yet to begin, but AMC has already jumped at the chance of renewing the zombie series, making sure that it will see a future up to season 6.

According to Screen Rant, "The Walking Dead" is the most highly rated show on cable and has held on to the number one spot for the last two years, competing with "Game of Thrones."

The renewal of the series has come with a statement from AMC that the new series will have "plenty more Dead ahead."

AMC President Charlie Collier announced, "We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of 'The Walking Dead' with fans around the globe. In advance of Sunday's season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There's plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort."

Cinema Blend noted that aside from the renewal series, a companion "spin off" series will also be made for "TWD".

No details have been released regarding season 6 yet, but we're expecting to learn more over the next few months.

However, here are some things to look forward to for the current season:

1. As it always is with "The Walking Dead," the season premiere will be heavy on blood and gore, particularly the opening. The premiere is said to be so horrific that it will be nearly impossible to watch. But of course, fans still would.

2. Some parts of the episode will be very difficult to watch, so make sure you have tissues on hand. Zap2It teased that the serieswill offer some low moments without providing some pretty great ones as well.

3. Carol will have a huge presence in the premiere, and it will be awesome. No specifics have been released, but Zap2It promised that she's going to win at everything.

Oh, and as a bonus tip, the credits will be worth watching.

"The Walking Dead" season 5 will air on Oct. 12 at 9 pm on AMC.
