Ben Affleck may be married to a psychopath in his latest movie with Rosamund Pike, but how is his real-life marriage with actress Jennifer Garner?
Unlike his character, Nick Dunn, Affleck's marriage is less crazy, and his wife can have more than one mask, but at least she never framed him for her own murder. Also unlike his character, who the people practically wanted to burn at the stake, Ben is well liked by the people around him.
During an interview with People, his "Gone Girl" co-star, Pike, said about Affleck, "He's very fun. He's obviously got a son now, but you can feel he is surrounded by girls in his house."
She shared fondly, "We would be in the makeup trailer and we very quickly got to talking about very gossipy female things and he just gets right stuck in it."
Of course, Affleck has been surrounded by a lot of girls in the home front, with his wife and two daughters, he should have picked up a few gossipy female things by now.
But speaking of the girls in his life, Affleck spoke about marriage, both in the film and his real-life family. Ben's Nick Dunn was in a bad place as far as film characters go. "I think for David this was a movie about how we sort of wear masks when we're in the process of getting into a relationship with somebody, and then we close the door and the masks come off and we find out who the other person really is, and that sometimes can be dark and scary."
His real-life marriage, on the other hand, is as different than Nick's as it possibly can, because unlike what Nick has to go through, Ben feels very lucky to have his wife. He said about Jennifer, "It is a little bit of the Magic 8 Ball thing. You try to shake it and you hope you get lucky. I've been very fortunate myself. I feel very lucky."
He also said that playing Nick is one of his deepest dives as a dark character. He shared with Detroit Free Press, "It's maybe the deepest dive into a dark character that is more grounded in realism," says Affleck. "The idea was to tell a very real story about a very real guy, a guy who's described in the book as average and normal and ordinary, over and over again, and yet one who we start to suspect may be capable of some really dark stuff."
