Jeremy Lin is known for being an avid social media user, featuring his own appreciation week and regularly posting tweets and uploading photos and personal videos on various sites.
Recently, the Los Angeles Lakers point guard announced that he will be giving away free Lakers preseason tickets when he appears at a Foot Locker store at Westfield Mall in Culver City on September 25. He made the announcement on Twitter, and, based on a report by CBS Local, will be handing out the freebies to the first 50 people who come to the event. The Foot Locker appearance was held at around 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Lin tweeted, "Im giving away Lakers preseason tix to first 50 people in line today! See u guys at Culver City @footlocker 430-6!!" The event "Boost LA Meet Jeremy Lin" is a part of a promotion by Adidas, which Lin is an endorser.
The free tickets will be good for the Lakers' opening preseason game against the Denver Nuggets at the Valley View Center in San Diego on October 6, 2014.
Lin's social media fans have grown considerably in the past years, as he continues to get involved in various online activities. He recently joined the Whistle Sports Network, taking with him his YouTube channel followers, which number almost 400,000. He received an equity stake in the company, which has partnerships with the NBA, NFL, MLB, MLS, Nascar and U.S. PGA Tour. Other sports personalities who also invested in the business include quarterback Peyton Manning and Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees.
In a report by Bloomberg, Lin said that the partnership will further boost his presence on YouTube and improve his interaction with fans.
"Society is moving toward digital, social and away from some of the older straight-up TV and movies. You see a lot of online and social media celebrities getting endorsements and opening their own stores. In the digital sports realm, it's a great partnership for both of us. What we're doing is groundbreaking," he said.
"If you look at other NBA players, they don't really have YouTube channels, they're reposting other videos or they might be a video here or there. We want to further push this social movement that we've been trying to create."
Fans should continue to watch out for more updates and freebies on Jeremy Lin's YouTube channel and Twitter account, JLin7.
