NBA Superstar LeBron James has revealed the secret to his shocking weight loss over the NBA offseason period -- and it requires a lot more discipline that we think.
In an interview by The Oregonian at the launch of the 12th edition of his signature sneaker, Lebron 12, the four-time MVP shared that the 67-day diet he underwent in the summer was really meant to "test his mental fortitude." This meant saying no to certain types of food that makes our mouths water.
"I had no sugars. No dairy. I had no carbs. All I ate was meat, fish, veggies and fruit," he told the news service. "I lost a ton of weight. Hopefully, I can pick a couple pounds back up."
LeBron hasn't really been secretive about his weight loss strategies, as he had been posting photos of his meals on Instagram over the past weeks, starting with an image that said "S/O @champagnepapi @futuretheprince and the "6" for the hospitality this weekend! Much appreciated and loved! See y'all soon. 216x330=416 #NIT #ItWasAMovie #StriveForGreatness"
He reportedly lost more than 10 pounds on this diet. According to Sports Illustrated, the original plan was to just cut back on carbs for a month, but that he decided to continue because it had made his body feel good. Some of the photos he posted include "arugula salad with chicken, strawberries, mango, cashews and olive oil/lemon vinaigrette dressing" and "lobster salad with mango chutney," both of which are in line with this strict program.
Fox Sports even adds that during a vacation with his family in Mykonos, Greece, a restaurant prepared a super fancy dessert with the text "King James" just for the NBA star, but he didn't eat it because he was staying away from sugar. He posted a photo of the cake, though, where he said "Thank you #Nammos Mykonos for the dessert gesture. To dang on bad I can't eat it! Grrrrrrrrrr!! Smh. #ButIWantItThough #AlmostAtTheFinishLine"
There are many speculations as to why he is working on his weight and focusing on getting leaner extra hard. Yahoo! Sports notes that it could be a "Kobe Effect," which helped the Lakers superstar extend his career by shedding a few pounds as he turns 30 years old. Other NBA players who have done the same include Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony. Other theories cited by Sports Illustrated point that LeBron may be preparing to play at a faster tempo in the upcoming season, especially now that he's playing alongside Kyrie Irving, one of the fastest players in the league.
