After winning the rematch against Marcos Maidana on September 13, Floyd Mayweather may finally be ready to face his archrival Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather's rematch against Maidana was uneventful and he dominated from start to finish. He won via unanimous decision to finally settle the score against Marcos Maidana after his controversial win in their first match on May 2014. He improved his perfect record to 47-0. After the fight, the American shared that his next fight will be in May 2015.

In a report by CBS Sports, Jim Gray of Showtime asked the undefeated champion about his thoughts on a possible bout against the Filipino. Mayweather replied, "I got to go back and talk to my team. I'm not ducking or dodging no opponent. If the Manny Pacquiao fight presents itself, let's make it happen. Pacquiao needs to focus on the guy in front of him. Once he gets past that test, let's see what the future holds."

According to Sporting News, Mayweather said, "We don't know what the future holds for Floyd Mayweather. What's realistic is I am 47-0. As of right now I want to enjoy my time off. We don't know who we going to be fighting."

Yahoo! Sports writes that fans have long been disappointed by failed negotiations between the two camps since 2009. Mayweather's intentions for dodging or delaying a match against Pacquiao may be a ploy to ensure that viewers fully anticipate the event, ultimately putting on a grand show and raking in a giant purse, which he prides himself to be good at. The news service also said that his statements may also be an empty promise, considering how he managed to avoid the dream fight in the past. It would be more convenient for Mayweather to face less exciting opponents and still bring in amounts such as the $32 million he got against Maidana, instead of risking his zero losses against Pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao, on the other hand, is set to face American Chris Algieri in Macau on November 22, 2014. The Filipino camp remains optimistic that a deal for a mega-fight will be hammered out soon.

At this point, fans would prefer to watch Mayweather take on Pacquiao and vice-versa instead seeing the two premier fighters take on outmatched rivals. It has been over six years since a big bout between the two was proposed and many fans have surrendered on the idea or thought of Mayweather's statements on Saturday night as another false hope. Many left MGM Grand before the final bell while many of those who stayed booed him as he responded to Gray.
