Miss America 2015 Winner: 5 Fun Facts About Miss New York Kira Kazantsev

A new Miss USA has been crowned on Sunday at the annual beauty pageant held in Atlantic City. Miss New York Kira Kazantsev bested 51 other contestants thanks to her beauty, talent and intelligence, E! Online said. The 23-year-old also won a $50,000 scholarship and marked the third consecutive year for her state to win the impressive title.

So who is this blonde beauty that will represent the country in the Miss Universe 2015 pageant? Here are top five facts about the stunner:

Miss USA 2015 was born in California

According to Metro.us, the Syracuse native was actually born in California. Kira moved from the sunny state to New York five years ago for college.

Mis USA 2015 is Trilingual

Kira's language skills might give her a leg-up in the Miss Universe competition next year. Kazantsev is the daughter of Russian immigrants, and has never lost touch of her Mother tongue. Moreover, Metro.us said that Kira studied Spanish as well. 

When she made a trip back to her home country recently, she told the Press of Atlantic City about her parents' decision then to migrate to the U.S., "It made me just appreciate the fact I am an American."

Miss USA 2015 did a "Happy"-"Pitch Perfect" routine for her Talent

The Associated Press said that Kira stood out from the rest of her competitors thanks to a very odd but entertaining performance of Pharrell Williams' "Happy." Wearing fancy blue overalls, she performed the song while banging a red plastic cup on the floor to the beat. Although she received major flak on social media networks, Kira has said that she was inspired by Anna Kendrick's character's auditions in the 2012 movie "Pitch Perfect." Kira said that it was important for her to take the otherwise risky talent to prove to others that future contestants could do any talent routine that they like.

"The reason why I chose to do that talent is I wanted every single little girl in America to be able to see that you can do that talent - you can do whatever talent you want on national television - even with a red cup - and still be Miss America and have the time of your life. I literally in that minute and 30 seconds had the most fun I've ever had, and that's because I stayed true to myself and I did what I wanted to do for my talent, no matter what everybody else told me, and it paid off. I'm very happy about it," she said.

Miss USA 2015 is an Advocate against Domestic Violence

Kira's advocacy is of her personal choice. She revealed to NPR that she was in an abusive relationship in college, and was unaware that there were resources she could use at that time to get help.

I want people to stop asking "Why doesn't she just leave?". Every woman is an expert in her own case, and there are so many extenuating circumstances that lead to a woman staying with her abuser," she added.

Miss USA 2015 is a Jane Austen/Austin Fan?

When Kira performed her "Happy" cups routine, social media were taken aback about ABC's graphic misspelling when they showcased some fun facts about the winner, Buzzfeed said. However, ABC might have not misspelled the last name of the "Pride and Prejudice" author. TIME said that Kira might have actually liked Jane Goodwin Austin, who is known for her Pilgrims-based romance novels. The magazine also said that Austin has a connection with an equally famous romance author - Louisa May Alcott of "Little Women" fame.

ABC or Kira has yet to issue a comment about the supposed graphic gaffe.
