Elsa, Anna and the rest of the Arendelle gang are set to be back on the screen in a new movie of sorts. According to Variety, Disney has planned for a new short movie featuring the characters of "Frozen", titled "Frozen Fever." The plan was revealed during ABC Television Network's TV special "The Story of Frozen: Making an Animated Classic" aired on September 2.
The synopsis of the short is as follows, "It's Anna's birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa's icy powers may put more than just the party at risk. Olaf, the snowman, also will make an appearance in the toon."
Huffington Post said it was not clear whether the characters would be voiced by the same actors in the movie version. Anna, Elsa and kristoff were voiced by Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Jonathan Groff respectively. If Bell would be offered to reprise the role, she did say she would be very eager to do it and has jokingly said she already recorded her parts for the sequel in her bedroom, Hitfix said. This is no longer a surprise considering that Bell herself has claimed she was given artistic license to portray Anna in the best way she can in the film, which is the goofy princess we have all come to love.
On the other hand, the short film would also be a reunion of sorts for the people behind the original film, Entertainment Weekly said. Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee are expected to direct the new short, which will be produced by Peter Del Vecho. Moreover, a new song that would hopefully lift us from the "Let It Go" phenomenon would be penned by award-winning songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.
There is no surprise that Disney is milking the success of the original animated film ahead of its sequel. Just last year, the film won the Academy Award, and was a commercial success in the box office at $1.27 billion worldwide, EW said. Because of its popularity, Disney even gave its own ABC network the license to work on a "Frozen" storyline for the new season of the hit series "Once Upon A Time."
The new short is expected to debut in spring next year, Variety said. The short will be accompanied by Disney's "Tomorrowland" with George Clooney and Pixar's latest offering "Inside Out."
