Team USA survived an early scare to stay unbeaten, while host country Spain dominated again in the second day of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup on Sunday.

USA, who opened the tournament with a 59-point drubbing of Finland on Saturday, had a lackluster start, but managed to find their rhythm in the final period to run away with a 98-77 win against Turkey in Bilbao.

Turkey leaned on their grit and determination to take a 40-35 heading into the half-time break, but the Americans shifted to next gear in the second half. The defending champions took a six point lead after the third period and never looked back from then on to score their second-straight blowout win.

Kenneth Faried led Team USA with 22 points on 11-for-14 shooting and eight rebounds, while Anthony Davis, who admitted that they came unprepared in the opening half, finished with 19 points and six rebounds.

"I think we didn't come ready to play in the first half and we can't afford to do that if we want to win a gold medal," Davis said after Sunday's match via ESPN. "So we've got to come out ready to play no matter who we're playing against."

The Americans, who are the heavy favorites to win the title this year, will take a rest on Monday before taking on New Zealand on Tuesday, 11:30 p.m. ET, in Bilbao, Spain.

Meanwhile, host Spain scored another dominating win, cruising to an easy 91-54 win against Egypt - a day after humiliating Asian champions Iran, 90-60, in the tournament debut.

Serge Ibaka played in his first game, and made immediate impact as he racked up 18 points and eight rebounds. Spanish superstar Pau Gasol saw limited action, but still managed to tally 12 points and three rebounds in 19 minutes.

Spain will have their first acid test of the tournament on Monday against Brazil, who posted a 79-50 win against Iran on Sunday morning for their second win in as many games.

Meanwhile, Senegal also had a share of the spotlight in day two after scoring an 82-75 upset against FIBA Americas contender Puerto Rico.

Gorgui Dieng, who plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA, led Senegal with a double-double, 18 points and 13 rebounds, Mouhammad Faye erupted for 20 points, leading their team to their first win in a World Championship since 1998.
