There are talks that Manchester United may finally acquire Marcos Rojo, writes ESPN.com.
The 24-year-old defender recently apologized for unprofessional behavior. He described himself as a "hot head" and returned to training on August 18 after going on strike to make a transfer possible earlier in August 2014.
He was quoted on August 18, saying, "It feels like a dream, to be a Manchester United player. Leaving Sporting wasn't easy."
In an article by 101 Great Goals, the team might have spent about £20 million to acquire the Argentine. Louis Van Gaal's new system involves three centre backs. In the opening match, Manchester United was defeated by Swansea with a final score of 2-1. Tyler Blackett had to start during the game. Using young players like Blackett, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans did not bode well for the Red Devils during their initial match. Experts said that the Angels may have finally gained its wings through Rojo.
In a report by Hereisthecity.com, Gianluca di Marzio, an Italian journalist, claimed that the deal between Marcos Rojo and Manchester United has been confirmed. He wrote, "Tomorrow he is expected in Manchester. Rojo is ready to sign a four-year contract with an option for fifth with the Red Devils."
According to Di Marzio, the agreement will also include putting Nani on loan to Sporting Lisbon for a period of one year. Nani was with Sporting CP for a couple of seasons in his native Portugal before going to Old Trafford in 2007.
Manchester United has not yet given any official announcement or commented on the transfer stories. Should the deal be true, the addition of Rojo will be good for its defensive line. Rojo was especially good at defending during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Pro Soccer Talk writes that Rojo is a left-sided central defender, which will toughen up the team's defense. Their acquisition of Rojo will be their best yet after unsuccessful bids during the summer. The team is said to be eyeing on Philippe Mexes and Mehdi Benatia next. Mexes is a defender for AC Milan. According to Raul Garcia, manager of Roma, no bids were submitted for Benatia by Manchester United yet.
Louis van Gaal has been looking for a left-footed defender for a while. It is a very effective method but Van Gaal confessed that he needed better players to execute his three centre back approach well.
