Because Marvel Studios managed to win in the summer box office race, thanks to its biggest cinematic draw since "Iron Man," "Guardians of the Galaxy," is expected to have a sequel, or a franchise for that matter, for the group of the most obscure superheroes in pop culture.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is expected to return in theaters in 2017, Cinemablend said, and although Marvel is great with keeping its films' storylines under wraps, certain details about the highly-anticipated sequel has been released by people close to the blockbuster film.

Here are the things that we know so far about the sequel:

Star-Lord's Father

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, could not resist sharing with IGN about the sequel's potential storyline. Towards the end of the film, the Nova Corps explained to Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) that he was able to hold the Infinity Stone a little while longer without being destroyed, before being joined by Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista) and Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), because his father comes from an ancient alien race.

When Feige was asked whether this would be tackled in the sequel, Feige said, "I think it's pretty important. I think there's a reason we seeded it at the very end of the film like that. I think that would certainly be part of a next Guardians adventure. Certainly, that would be part of it."

Thanos In Action

Feige also refused to confirm whether they would be introducing the extent of Thanos' (Josh Brolin) powers in the upcoming sequel. He said, "The truth is, anything I say would be a spoiler, frankly, on that. I don't think it's required. I think you could go right into a Thanos-centered movie and tell the audience anything you need to know. But the fun of our universe is that the characters can pop up in multiple franchises, so... perhaps. It is a good question."

Avengers-Guardians crossover?

Perhaps the biggest conspiracy theory that sent fans overly happy was the possibility of an Avengers-Guardians crossover. We Got This Covered quoted Feige, who said, "Who knows if and when these guys would ever connect, but it is fun thinking about, how would Steve Rogers react to Rocket? Or, you're right, Drax couldn't even have a conversation with Tony Stark!"

Gamora vs Nebula

In the film, Gamora and Nebula (Karen Gillan) are seen sparring not just physically, but verbally over the latter's jealousy of her adopted sister. As Thanos' favorite daughter, Nebula chose to side with Rohan the Accuser (Lee Pace) when the latter had the powerful Infinity Stone in his possession. If Thanos would be doing scenes in the "Guardians of Galaxy" sequel outside his rocky throne, it is expected that Nebula would be making an appearance to spar again with her estranged, green-skinned sister, Cinemablend said.

Full-grown 'dancing' Groot

"Guardians of the Galaxy" won the hearts of the mainstream public mainly because of its heart. And Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) captured a lot of it, thanks to his connection with Rocket, his magical tree powers, and his ability to regenerate even though he was destroyed into a million twigs for saving his team from an impending collision. In the film's ending, we see a baby Groot sneakily dancing to Jackson 5 behind Drax's back. As such, there is no doubt Groot will be back onscreen.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will be shown on July 28, 2017, after an untitled Marvel picture and "Doctor Strange."
