After Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed the title of the fifth installment of the "Terminator" franchise, many have reminisced the last four films of the movie vehicle that made the Austrian bodybuilder a bonafide Hollywood superstar. The man truly is a person to be admired, considering the fact that the 67-year-old has never slowed down and instead made more movies after his term as the governor of California.
We decided to do our own walk on the memory lane. Except for "Termination Salvation," which is the only film in the franchise that Schwarzenegger did not star in and of which he himself has dissed as "awful," here are our Top Five Best Scenes in the movie franchise.
A young John Connor teaches robotic Arnold how to be human
In the 1991 film "T2: Judgement Day," Entertainment Weekly recalls the moment where a young Edward Furlong, who plays John Connor in the film, gave his new robot pal one of the most iconic phrases in cinematic history. The Spanglish catchphrase "Hasta La Vista, Baby" was purportedly better than Arnold's monotone "I'll be bahhhhk" phrase.
Sarah Connor sees her grim future
IGN said that in "T2," Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) was the embodiment of all mothers who care for their kids' future. While she is taking a break with her T-800 soldier at a desert, she dreams of her seeing her future self playing with her future baby, John, against the backdrop of the Los Angeles skyline.
Suddenly, a nuke explodes in the city, and a shock wave of fire burns everything, including the present and future Sarahs and baby John.
When Sarah woke up from her nightmare, it became her constant reminder to toughen up and protect her son from all costs, even if it means her life.
TX versus T-800
In "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," we are introduced to a beautiful but deadly blonde terminator (Kristanna Loken), who has managed to keep us on the edge of our seats when she proved to be almost unbeaten, even by dear Arnold, TotalFilm said. The fight scenes between Loken's TX and Arnold's dated T-800 was the most exciting thing to watch, and had left us rooting for Arnold to kill the TX.
The end of the world according to John Connor
The ending of "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" was a powerful moment not because Arnold succeeded, but because it reminded us that there are things that we could not change. The poignant moment is courtesy of an older John Connor (Nick Stahl), who raced towards what he thinks is a mission to stop Skynet from obliterating mankind. Along with his future wife Kate Brewster (Claire Danes), IGN said they found themselves being locked in a nuclear bunker by Arnold as he self-destructs to kill himself and the TX (Loken). The two then dread over the thought that Judgement Day has started outside of the bunker, and immediately, John assumes control of his destiny to become the leader of the new world as he takes radio transmissions from survivors inside the bunker.
"I'll Be Back"
The catchphrase signaled not only Arnold's rise in Hollywood as a box-office superstar but also promised that the movie would turn out to be one of the most watched movie Hollywood movie franchise. IGN revealed that it wasn't even the original words in the script, but Arnold's delivery made it more worthwhile for director James Cameron to keep the phrase.
