It's going to get dark in the "Hunger Games" world indeed.
The new posters released for the upcoming movie "Mockingjay Part 1" had somewhat indicated that the citizens of fictional Panem would be entering somber times. The new posters showed central characters of the Suzanne Collins' dystopian series all in drab, almost prison-like clothing.
Entertainment Weekly said that in "Catching Fire," Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) gets rescued by Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), Beetee (Jeffrey Latier) and Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) from the destroyed arena used to host the deadly Quarter Quell. Katniss was later informed that her home, District 12, has been obliterated, no doubt by the Capitol; and that Peeta Mallark (Josh Hutcherson) has been kidnapped by the government. The rescue team is returning back to District 13, wherein Katniss will serve as inspiration to yet another cause: to destroy the Capitol and ultimately upseat the dangerous President Snow (Donald Sutherland).
In the photos, we are introduced to District 13 President Coin (Julianne Moore), who is the leader of the rebellion. Finnick (Sam Claflin), despite looking very handsome in his otherwise sad-looking color of a wardrobe, is still a far cry from the movie-star personality he was known for in the previous film. Even Effie (Elizabeth Banks) looked like a model posing for Maison Martin Margiela's latest collection considering that her signature colorful wardrobe has been replaced with monochromatic grays. Evidence of her former flamboyant fashion style could still be seen thanks to her colorful bracelets, peach high heels and what appears to be a makeshift turban. Beetee is seen sitting on a wheelchair.
Katniss' other love interest, Gale (Liam Hemsworth) and her sister Prim (Willow Shields) are suspiciously absent from the posters. The two would also be playing key roles to the success, or the potential demise of District 13's plans to topple the oppressive Capitol government.
Perhaps the most haunting photo of all would be of Plutarch, who is portrayed by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Daily Mail said that the thespian has died at age 46 of a heroin overdose during a break in filming the last two "Hunger Games" films.
The actor, also dressed in grey clothing, stood tall as the commander of the rebels.
Hoffman was found dead inside his apartment in Manhattan in February this year, the British magazine reported. His estimated $35 million fortune is in the care of his long-time partner Mimi O'Donnell, of whom he has a son and two daughters with.
"Mockingjay: Part 1" is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay written by Peter Craig & Danny Strong, IGN said. The film will hit theaters November 21 in the US.
