Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana's rematch will provide fans more ways to enjoy a good fight as the event will be live streamed in 570 movie screens throughout the United States.
In an ESPN report, fans who will not be watching the fight live or on Showtime PPV also has the option to view it in HD. The announcement was made by Mayweather Promotions and Fathom Events.
Mayweather said about the collaboration with Fathom Events, "I love that fans can go to the movie theaters to watch my fights. Our relationship with Fathom has been a good one thus far, and it's only getting stronger. This is my first rematch in over a decade and I'm happy that we're going to give fans the opportunity to see it live on the big screen."
Maidana also gave his statement on the approach, "I am so happy that this rematch is being shown on movie screens because when I hand Floyd his first loss, it should be larger than life. Our first fight was exciting, but this one is going to be even better and I hope fans are ready."
Their last fight was in May 3, 2014 -- where Mayweather won via majority decision. However, fans believed that Maidana was a great contender and the undefeated champion was obviously having a difficult time defending his title. Compared to Mayweather's other opponents such as Alvarez and Cotto, Maidana brings something different to the table and exhibited more toughness. Both fighters are expected to make adjustments based on their last fight. Their second bout will still be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Many of Mayweather's fights in the past were shown in movie theaters with the support of Fathom Events.
According to Boxing News 24, Mayweather said, "Boxing is legendary and someday I truly believe I'll be mentioned amongst the best. September 13th, Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 is going to be legendary, don't miss it. The bar is set so high for Floyd Mayweather, that people seeing me lose 3 rounds, think I lost. I'm a crafty, slick, smart, counter puncher with a lot of experience. Maidana is a dirty brawler. Floyd Mayweather is a legend, people want to tune in and watch legends. It's about entertainment; everyone wants to be entertained. It's about giving people what they want to see."
Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, said, "Nothing about this fight is easy. Floyd has his work cut out for him come 9/13. Maidana is a tremendous fighter and he's come up the old fashioned way and he's got better and better."
