Initially, Louis Van Gaal of Manchester United, was tasked to sign Arturo Vidal. However, the midfielder from Juventus has other plans.
In a report by Sky Sports, Vidal already said that he will not be signing with Manchester United. At the same time, he shared that he is still uncertain whether he will be staying at Juventus. He is currently waiting to discuss matters with his current team on July 28, 2014. He was clear that he will not be signing with Old Trafford.
Vidal said, "I'm still on holiday at the moment. Can I say I'm staying at Juve? I don't know. On Monday I'll talk to Allegri then we'll see." He added, "I'm happy here. I'm calm. I believe Juve fans can be too. I still haven't spoken to Allegri or my teammates." He was asked whether he will be going to Manchester United to which he replied, "No, no."
Vidal last played at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where a fan from the crowd was observed presenting a Chilean flag with the words stating, "SIGN VIDAL!!" Van Gaal got the idea of potentially signing Vidal from the complete stranger.
Vidal has been a key player in the past three years for Juventus. Before the start of the World Cup, there were already rumors circulating that he may be looking to transfer teams after the international tournament. He still has an ongoing contract with Juventus until 2017.
According to Daily Star, the Red Devils will have to contend with Liverpool for the Chilean. Liverpool made a bid for £42.5 million. In mid-July, Manchester United said that they were willing to pay for a premium player in the range close to what other superstars like Messi and Ronaldo were getting. Ed Woodward, executive vice-chairman of Manchester, said, "The reality is that we're not afraid of spending significant amounts of money in the transfer market. Whether it's a record or not doesn't really resonate with us. What resonates is a top, top elite player that the manager wants that is going to be a star for Manchester United."
When dealing with the media, Vidal did not give clear and concrete answers. More certainty might be shown after his meeting with Allegri on Monday. Van Gaal, in the meantime, had a great start after leading Manchester to a 7-0 victory in a friendly match against LA Galaxy. He briefly discussed his team composition, "We have four no. 10s, so the selection is not balanced in my eyes."
