The 2012 Video Music Awards took place during the evening of September 6, and the show has received some negative reviews with the LATimes writing it was "less entertaining than Thursday's other big TV event, the Democratic National Convention" and another media agency calling the show "bland" altogether.
The show included performances by the biggest names in the current music industry including Rihanna, One Direction, Katy Perry, and others but still lacked substance. 'Gangam Style' Psy was present as well and amused the crowd not only by speaking an unheard language at the VMAs, Korean, but also doing his popular 'horse dance'.
The biggest winners of the night were the boy band sensation One Direction which scooped three 'moonmen' for BEST NEW ARTIST, BEST POP VIDEO AND MOST SHARE-WORTHY VIDEO.
