Although several top NBA players have already been signed by new teams during the NBA offseason, there are still a number of notable names that continue to be the subject of potential deals, including Andrew Wiggins and Kevin Love.
In an article on Bleacher Report, the Cleveland Cavaliers are still showing a lot of interest in possibly acquiring Minnesota Timberwolves forward, Kevin Love. The two teams have been trying to reach an agreement in the past weeks and as the talks continue, the Cavaliers may have to offer No. 1 pick, Andrew Wiggins, in exchange for the All-Star forward. Since Love is already an established star in the league, the Cavaliers will have to add Anthony Bennett in the deal to convince the Wolves.
Another option for the Cavs would be to offer Wiggins and a first-round draft pick in 2015. Wiggins has been very consistent and promising in the pre-season games and his trading value increased considerably since he was drafted by Cleveland, making it seem that he will be a good trade for Love. The Timberwolves previously made it clear that they were not eager to trade Love and that if they should release him, it would only be for someone of equal or greater value to the team.
In a report by Mass Live, currently, the Cavs have not yet offered Wiggins in exchange for Love. Another team, the Golden State Warriors, also expressed interest in acquiring Love and the Wolves seemed to be more interested in acquiring Klay Thompson rather than Wiggins. It is difficult, however, for the Warriors to let go of Thompson and he is also bound to extend his contract at a rate of $15 million per season.
Love has established himself as one of the best power forwards in the NBA, with an average of 26.1 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in 2013-2014. Love also shared that he wanted to play alongside LeBron James for a chance to finally join the playoffs. Such a move would form another Big Three in Ohio, consisting of James, Love and Kyrie Irving.
Coach Mike Krzyzewski said that he would go for Love and advise the Cavs to let go of Wiggins. It may pose a huge risk for the Cavaliers, who have a lot of raw talent which can take years to develop. He said in a report by USA Today, "He's (Love) a double-double guy, but he's a double-double guy that can spread the court. There aren't many double-double guys, if any, who spread the court. He can go inside and outside... No pun intended, but I love Kevin Love."
