Matt Bendik, boyfriend of "Glee" star Becca Tobin and owner of several nightclubs in the U.S., was found dead at his hotel room in Philadelphia at 1:00 in the afternoon of July 10.
Sources cited by TMZ say that one of the maids at Hotel Monaco found Bendik's body lying on the bed, face down. The circumstances surrounding his sudden passing are a mystery, but the the police said there appears to be no foul play involved. No weapons, drugs or drug paraphernalia, or any sort of medication were found at the scene, or any evidence of suicide. There was no mention if any alcohol was involved. Another article by Daily Mail quotes an unnamed source who said that Bendik was trying to expand his business in the area and that his family reportedly believes he may have suffered a sudden heart attack due to all the stress.
Tobin, who plays the character "Kitty" on "Glee," was not with him at the time of his death, nor was she in Philadelphia. As of this writing, media are still trying to get Tobin's statement. Daily Mail added that Bendik's family is "devastated by the tragedy" and that Tobin is "inconsolable." It was reported that Bendik and Tobin were already considering marriage.
"Matt's family is devastated. His parents worry he may have died from a heart attack because he worked so hard, almost a workaholic. He and Becca were madly in love and talked marriage and having a family. She is inconsolable," said the source.
"He was a great guy, totally clean, didn't do drugs, he was just extreme ambitious which his family fears led to his death. It's very sad because Becca was so in love and saw a long future with him," added the source.
The incident happened just before the first year anniversary of the death of "Glee" star, Cory Monteith.
According to TMZ, the 35-year-old Bendik was out with some friends the night before he was found dead. "Everything seemed fine," a source was quoted in the report and the last person to see him was a club manager in Philadelphia. Sources interviewed revealed that while Bendik owned a number of clubs, he was not known to be partier.
Hollywood Life noted that Bendik co-owned the AV Nightclub in Los Angeles and was director of operations at DBA Nightclub. Upon learning of his demise, DBA immediately paid tribute to their boss on their marquee and posted it on their Twitter account.
