News of a fifth "Bourne" installment broke late last year and ignited a flurry of excitement among fans of the said movie franchise. "Fast & Furious" director Justin Lin was also announced as the film's director and Jeremy Renner as the "genetically-enhanced CIA agent Aaron Cross," Rolling Stone noted.
And we thought the story ended with the third or fourth sequel.
The said installment was first slated to be released in August 2015. However, according to recent reports, it appears that the movie will be delayed as the play date has been moved 11 months further to July 15, 2016, Entertainment Weekly said.
"Instead, the studio will release 'Straight Outta Compton' on Aug. 14, 2015. The biopic recounts the rise and fall of the hip-hop group N.W.A. It stars O'Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube (Jackson's real-life father), Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E," the entertainment news source said.
It appears the script played a significant role in the said delay, according to Variety. "Since the studio only recently set Andrew Baldwin to pen the script to the next and a production date had not been set for the film, it makes sense that Universal pushed the release to give more time to finish the script," the publication said.
Screen Crush noted that this is actually good news, as "if every studio delayed a film whenever a screenplay needed more time and work, we'd have better movies."
"This is a sign that Universal cares about this series and wants Baldwin to get this one right," the site noted. "And they need to get this one right. While 'The Bourne Legacy' faired well at the box office and earned mixed-to-positive reviews, it wasn't nearly as big or as popular as 'The Bourne Identity,' 'The Bourne Supremacy' or 'The Bourne Ultimatum,' which set a new standard for cinematic spy action in the 21st century."
It's only logical that a film studio put a lot of care in producing sequels in order to ensure that their investment yield financially viable revenues. After all, cinematic entertainment is a business and they need to produce movies that sell so they can make more films.
With this delay, many speculations about whether the film will indeed get made or what the plot or its creative will be like are sure to pop up here and there in cyberspace. Then there's also the question of whether Renner's star power is enough for him to deliver the goods and help the film get worldwide audiences to watch the flick come 2016. Your thoughts, readers?
