The Los Angeles Kings are on the verge of winning the Stanley Cup as they lead the series 3-0 over the New York Rangers with a final score of 3-0. Should the Kings sweep the series, it will be their second championship in three years.
The Kings' goalie Jonathan Quick was the hero of the game and played his best in the final series. He made 32 saves in Game 3 on June 9 and did not give any opportunity for the Rangers to score a single goal.
Quick said, "I don't think it would be any different if we were down 3-0. We're just trying to win a game in a couple days here. That's the focus."
In a report by Sports Net, the New York Rangers are one loss away from being swept by the Kings. Quick's 32 saves are his best start in the series. For the Kings, Jeff Carter, Jake Muzzin and Mike Richards scored the three goals. Carter scored first at the end of the first period. Muzzin and Richards added the following goals in the second period.
The Kings have been playing catch-up in the first two games at home. The Rangers lost two-point leads previously. This time, Quick did not give them a chance, regardless of the type of offense they came up with. The Kings were more dominant playing at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
According to Bleacher Report, the first last-second goal by Carter was made at 19 minutes and 59.3 seconds. In the third period, the Rangers had more power play opportunities but could not convert because of the formidable Kings defense.
The game was played at a quick pace, which was supposed to be advantageous for the Rangers. However, they only managed four shots in the first period. In their two last games, the Rangers were able to lead quickly by two points, although the Kings seemed to be used to clawing back, writes The Guardian.
Game 4 will be played in New York. NHL experts speculate that the Rangers have a very slim chance of winning the series now. They have to rely on their home court advantage to at least get a win before the Stanley Cup Finals end.
Ryan McDonagh said, "It was an unfortunate goal to give up at the end of the period. I thought our guys stayed with it and tried to come out with some energy, and created a lot. It was a tough one."
