New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter may be on his 20th and last season, but it doesn't look like the baseball superstar will be out of Major League Baseball for good. In fact, he wants to own a team someday, a report on the New York Post reveals.

In an interview with the publication, the Yankees team captain said that his next goal would be to "call the shots, not answering to someone... I'd like to think I would be a good one."

Jeter, who turns 40 in June 26, is not yet sure which team he would like to own. When asked whether he would make a bid for the Yankees if the Steinbrenner family puts it up on the block, he joked, "You got some money for me?" writes New York Daily News. Owning a sports team will definitely require a huge chunk of money, as evidenced by the $2 billion offer former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had put down for the LA Clippers of the NBA.

If things go his way, would fans be seeing Jeter on the headlines like the late George Steinbrenner during his tenure? Jeter says not likely, adding that he is more of a sidelines and behind the scenes guy. He is also not interested in being a manager, given the amount of time and commitment the job demands, writes Sports Illustrated. He also said he doesn't want to have to deal with media inquiries, which is one of the main roles of a team manager.

So far, Jeter has yet to make any ownership interest formal and has not made a decision on which team he is interested in, although he said he plans to firm things up after the season concludes. He also said he is eyeing only baseball and has no interest in any other type of sport.

The Yankees are currently in second place in the American League East.
