The MTV Video Music Awards' host Kevin Hart is not worried about competing with President Obama for ratings on Thursday, the comedian told CNN. The awards ceremony, which includes big-name celebrities as performers and presenters, will air live from Los Angles on September 6 at 8 p.m. EST.
Hart told CNN, "I don't think they can compete. 'Cause it's me! You know at the end of the day, the world wants to see me." The VMA will narrowly miss the Democratic National Convention, where the President is set to speak on Thursday at 10 p.m. EST.
Apart from the entertaining comedian, the VMA has confirmed a number of popular presenters including Miley Cyrus, the Wanted, Wiz Khalifa, Andy Samberg and the "Fierce Five," the gold medal winning U.S. Women's Olympics Gymnastics Team.
On Tuesday, the network announced three additional performers to the show's lineup including 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne. Previous musical performances confirmed for the award ceremony include Green Day, Pink, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, and nominees One Direction, Rihanna and Frank Ocean. It will be the first VMA appearance for One Direction, who hosted their own VMA special on August 30, rapper Frank Ocean and rapper 2 Chainz.
The network also revealed the contents of the celebrity gift bags guest will receive that night. Perks include makeup, jewelry, a two-night hotel stay, free two-year membership to Netflix and clothes.
As always, the awards show will air live, which host Kevin Hart said is what he likes most about the show. "You have to expect the unexpected, I mean that's the beauty of having a live show. So literally- I'm welcoming the nonsense," Hart told CNN. "I hope something crazy DOES happen. It gives me more material, it gives me more stuff to play with so I honestly hope something does happen. I WANT Robert and Kristen to come. I want to see it! I want to see it be awkward. I want to see 'em not really speak and hug and try to pretend in front of the press. I think it'll be hilarious."
The comedian was, of course, referring to Twilight actors and real-life couple, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, who have had a rocky summer after Stewart's affair with British director Rupert Sanders became public. Although the twosome has not confirmed their attendance to the award show, MTV announced it would be airing the final trailer to their movie "Breaking Dawn-Part 2" during the VMA.
The MTV Video Music Awards will air from Los Angeles on September 6, 2012 at 8 p.m. EST.
