A passenger plane from US Airways was damaged after going through a hail storm as it tried to land in Philadelphia's airport on Thursday, local media reported.
According to a report from The Associated Press, quoted by ABC, the plane of flight 768 of US Airways from Orlando, Florida, was immersed in a powerful storm yesterday, just as it descended towards Philadelphia's airport.
The hail balls were so big that the windshield of the plane was damaged and one of the layers of glass was broken, which caused the plane's crew to worry for a couple of minutes.
Andrea Guguely, spokesperson for the US Airways airline, told the AP that the pilot of the plane, an Airbus 320, declared an emergency as a cautionary measures to make sure the plane could immediately approach the Philadelphia International Airport.
Despite the incident, the plane managed to land without further problems and no one was injured, according to the news agency.
According to the quoted source, a strong hail storm was reported yesterday, some as big as tennis balls, in various areas east of Pennsylvania, which caused the windshields of many cars to be affected, and that many windows were reported to be broken along with damage to the façade of many buildings.
Many Fox 29 viewers shared pictures and videos of the strong rains and hail present in Philadelphia yesterday, rains which caused severe damage in some parts of the area.
On their part, emergency officials of Berks and Montour Counties confirmed on the afternoon of Thursday that they have received many calls regarding damages, mainly on windshields and broken windows, but corroborated that there have been no reports of injuries.
