The parents of an 8-year-old girl reported that she was the victim of school abuse from other students of the Gates Street Elementary School in Lincoln Heights, and that school authorities haven't done anything to clear up the incident.
Karla Covarrubias, a second grade student, hasn't gone to school in three weeks after an incident on April 25 when another girl pushed her, making her fall and hit her mouth on the corner of a desk. The blow was such that the girl lost two frontal teeth and four more became loosened, highlighted KTLA.
Karla said that on that day she was in line to get her lunch when another girl, who had bullied her previously, approached her and asked her to buy a cookie from her, which Karla refused, and was then pushed, suffering terrible consequences.
"A girl wanted me to buy her cookies, but I didn't have any money," the girl told KTLA.
According to the same source, Karla said that she has suffered verbal abuse in the past from the girl that pushed her, as well as from other students, who called her fat and mocked her because, according to them, she walks slow.
The parents of the minor told CBS that their girl had a jaw fracture and will need surgery, and also said that authorities from the school have done nothing about this incident.
On their part, officials from the Los Angeles Unified School District, told the NBC that they're aware of what happened and are currently investigating the event, besides confirming that the school's principal has contacted the parents, but did not provide further details.
Mario Covarrubias, Karla's father, told the quoted news network that the principal of the Gates Street elementary school in Lincoln Heights has not done enough to help his daughter.
"He said he spoke with the children and they say that Karla fell on her own, but this is not true," said the worried father.
