The gala of the Metropolitan Museum of New York, the Met Gala, is without a doubt one of the most important annual fashion events; however, in its 2014 edition, a video which apparently shows rapper Jay-Z being violently attacked by his sister-in-law, Solange Knowles, Beyoncé's sister, is taken international headlines.
Leaked on Monday, May 12 by entertainment website TMZ, the video, announced as a surveillance video of an elevator where the Met Gala took place, shows the moment in which the rapper, his spouse Beyoncé and her sister, also singer Solange, enter an elevator.
Seconds after, 44-year-old Jay-Z and 27 year old Solange exchange words and then the woman begins to furiously hit her brother-in-law until an unidentified man who accompanied, presumably a bodyguard, attempts to stop her but she resists and continues to hit the singer.
The recording show that, in the beginning, Beyoncé seems to stay out of the conflict; however, after the first attack, the popular singer tries to calm down her sister, without results.
According to TMZ, the three family members left the building and were seen by photographers and the press, who didn't know what had happened then. The website said that Beyoncé and her sister abandoned the place in a different vehicle from the rapper's, who left in the company of a security guard.
Since the video was leaked on Monday afternoon, countless speculation on the cause of the fight have appeared on the Internet; however, since the video has no audio, it's impossible to know what caused the fight so far.
According to Time magazine, those responsible for the Standford Hotel in New York, where the Met Gala took place, said yesterday that they are "surprised and disappointed that there was a clear violation of our security system," and promised to start an investigation to find those responsible for leaking the video.
However, until Tuesday, neither Jay-Z nor Solange Knowles' managers have commented on the matter, and rumors continue.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé are seen together during basketball game
Despite everything, Jay-Z and Beyoncé were seen together on the night of Monday during a match between the Brooklyn Nets and the Miami Heat at the Barclays Center in New York, according to the website of the Daily Mail.
The quoted source commented that the couple was seen to be affectionate and smiling during the game, but what many wanted to see was a statement that things didn't go sour after the incident on May 5.
