New, exclusive footage from "The Fault In Our Stars" reveals Hazel and Gus on their first date, which takes place in a restaurant in Amsterdam. Shailene Woodley, who plays the female lead herself, introduced the short video to audiences in the first few seconds of the clip. Scroll down to watch!
In the featured footage, the young lovers can be seen making a toast and sipping champagne while seated across each other. An amiable waiter indulges the young diners by saying that the beverage is like "tasting the stars," after noticing their amazement at the taste of the champagne. "We've bottled all the stars for you this evening, my young friends" the charming waiter announced with a smile and departed, leaving the couple smiling excitedly.
Typical first date? It may appear just that to the casual observer. But to those who know, such an event holds more significance and meaning for the young couple involved - one has cancer which has metastasized to her lungs, while the other is a cancer survivor whose leg was recently amputated.
"Based on the hugely popular novel by John Green, 'The Fault In Our Stars' tells the story of the two teenagers who meet at a cancer support group," Yahoo! Movies noted. "Hazel seems to be losing her battle, but her attempts to distance herself emotionally from Gus seems to be failing."
The novel, upon which this movie was based on, was only published in 2012 and is inspired by its author's experiences as student chaplain of a children's hospital. His tome went on to become a massive success and sold over 1 million copies - and counting, thanks to the movie adaptation.
"The Fault In Our Stars" will be in U.S. theaters on June 6 and will be released in the UK on June 20 this year.
