David Beckham Might Reconsider the Location of His Miami Stadium [Video]

Former player and soccer star David Beckham took advantage on Tuesday of his visit to the city of Miami to check out the area where the pier is located, north of the American Airlines Arena, where he might relocate the project of a professional soccer stadium.

According to the Miami Herald, the soccer star was on his way to a playoff game of the Miami Heat, when he showed up at the place which might become the seat of the professional stadium of the Major League Soccer which was initially planned to open in Port Miami.

The millionaire project that Beckham planned to carry out, however, has not had the support that was expected. City businessmen have expressed their disagreement with the British footballer who announced that his intention was to build the stadium in the Port of Miami.

Politicians and neighbors have shown their worry on the matter, since, they say, the construction of a stadium with a capacity to seat 25,0000 people might generate enormous traffic, and this is just the first of the problems.

This is why the former player has had to think about possibly relocating the $250 million dollar project, and judging by his statements, there might not be as many problems after all.

"It's a great site. It's as good as what we had in the port," said the player on Wednesday at City Hall of the Miami-Dade County, according to the Miami Herald.

But the former footballer also made it clear that he has no intentions yet to build close to the port. "Our favorite sports are those close to the sea. I'm not going to lie about it," revealed Beckham to the Miami Herald before his meeting with County officials on Wednesday.

According to the CBS Miami, during the meeting on Wednesday, the British player assured that, despite everything, public opinion will be key to advance the project.

"For me that's the most important. For me it's more important for the public to agree and be happy about where we want to build the stadium. I've said it since the first day, and I want it to be a club that they can feel it's theirs. So this is a decision they can make, where they feel we should build the stadium, that would be perfect," said Beckham.

Both the city's mayor, Carlos Giménez and City Hall officials have continued the negotiations with the group of investors who represent Beckham to reach an agreement on the location where the soccer stadium will be finally built.
