The fifth installment of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise is long overdue. That's a fact.

The fourth installment arrived in theaters in 2011. Previous iterations had gaps that ranged from one to three years. And now, it's been three years and production for "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" still remains sketchy, with reports saying that the film has actually not yet been greenlit, although the director and lead actor has already been confirmed for the fifth sequel, Slash Film noted.

So, what's true and what's not? Here are the top 5 facts we know right now about the sequel to the hit movie series:

Fact 1: Two Directors Are Involved

No, this is not because Disney can't make up its mind. It's mostly because Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg usually work as a team - think Farrelly Brothers or Lana and Andy Wachowski. Both are from Norway and goes by the directing team name "Roenberg," which is an amalgamation of their last names.

Fact 2: Johnny Depp Has Signed On

It's accurate to say that "Pirates of the Caribbean" isn't "Pirates of the Caribbean" if it's without the A-list actor. So, the fact that Johnny's on board the fifth installment, which Disney Wikia noted may be the last one of the series, boosts the likelihood that this film may actually get released. Johnny will be reprising his famous and often-parodied Captain Jack Sparrow character.

Fact 3: The Movie Has Already been Christened

IGN noted that the fifth sequel is named "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales." Sounds very apt for a pirate film, don't you think?

Fact 4: Film's Release Has Been Delayed - Again

Slash Film said the sequel was originally slated for a 2015 release. However, it has been pushed further to 2016 on Memorial Day/summer.

Fact 5: The Script Isn't Finished Yet

IGN reported that Disney chairman Alan Horn said they're still working on the screenplay as we speak. "We haven't seen a screenplay yet that I've been able to sign off on... There's a lot of variables that affect the final outcome once it leaves the studio lot, so we are very careful," Horn was quoted as saying.
