This is probably one of the many spinoffs the original Oscar 2014 selfie that comedian Ellen DeGeneres engineered in March. However, when it involves one of the hottest boy bands on Earth today, it's likely to be a big hit, despite the lack of originality.

The men of One Direction have just started their "Where We Are" world tour when, during a gig in Santiago, they decided to do a group selfie.

"The five young men were joined by their live band for the snap, which was taken by Liam Payne and has so far been liked 350,000 times, re-tweeted 21,658 times and favourited 36,444 times," The Daily Mail observed. "The shot, which has since been removed, also generated 30,000 comments."

The numbers may be a stretch from those of the original Oscar snap, but it's quite impressive enough to garner a decent following. Ellen's selfie "was re-tweeted almost four million times and remains the most-shared picture, ever."

Will One Direction nudge their numbers to 6-digit territory? Will Directioners be able to boost it to even higher stats? This prospect seems to be hazy, especially when its Instagram version has left Harry Styles out of the shot, thanks (or no thanks) to Liam Payne.

"Only half of his face can be see in the colour-drenched shot, which will no doubt upset his fans. But Liam only opened his Instagram account this week, which means followers of the band will likely forgive him. Not least because they've already had a tiring start to the tour," the British entertainment publication noted.

Oh Liam, what have you done this time? Perhaps someone can show him the ropes and correct this error?

Prior to this update, it has been reported that Harry, Liam, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson were made to transfer to another hotel during their Peruvian stopover as security personnel were struggling to hold back excited fans from dashing into the Belmond Palacio Nazarenas in Cusco, where the boys were staying.
