Grand Theft Auto 5 might be the most anticipated game out there at the moment. Rockstar Games has been slowly feeding the public tiny morsels about the game, never revealing too much, but always giving enough to send gamers in a speculation frenzy.
"It might annoy people that we don't give out more information, but I think the end point is people enjoy the experience. The less they know about how things are pieced together and how things are broken down and what our processes are, the more it will feel like this thing is alive, that you are being dragged into the experience. That's what we want," said Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser in an interview with Variety.
What we do know is that the game will feature a new nameless protoganist and will take place in the fictional city of Los Santos, which is based of Los Angeles, and its surrounding countryside. Los Santos was also one of the three cities in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Rockstar has also stated that multiplayer will be a bigger aspect of the game, with gamers able to import their crews from Max Payne 3 into the system.
Screenshots also indicate that Grand Theft Auto 5 will feature the return of planes to the game for the first time since Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Rockstar has not given the public an official release date, which has some gamers speculating that the game could be released on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox 720.
While this kind of speculation has gained some traction, there is a good reason to believe that Rockstar will be releasing the game on current-gen systems.
Developers seem to have their hands on development kits for the next-gen consoles, but nobody has leaked images of games being developed for those systems. Rockstar has released screenshots and even a trailer from the game, which more likely than not, means that they are developing it for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Gamestop also believes that the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox could be released in 2014, and its hard to see Rockstar keeping the game under wraps for almost a year and a half. The most likely scenario is a 2013 release date.
What do you think? Will Rockstar delay the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 until next-gen systems are released? Or will they launch the game in 2013?
